Field Maintenance

To Supervise a group of skilled and semiskilled craftsmen within the disciplines of heavy equipment mechanic’s and drilling rig mechanics.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform and supervise maintenance activities on major and auxiliary drilling rig equipment and camp facilities and schedule work relating to the operational program in the most efficient and least disruptive manner.
  • Maintain and document daily activities and generate technical reports when requested, prepare and maintain up-to-date maintenance records on all rig equipment.
  • Assess the condition of all mechanical components during the course of normal operation in conjunction with an active preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime or unsafe situations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctioning mechanical equipment including, diesel engines, Draw works, Mud pumps, Air Compressor, Transmissions and related equipment to assure continuity of operations.
  • Conduct safety checks to insure proper practices are observed and advise rig operation crew members on the proper care and operation of the equipment.
  • Read drawings, parts and service/repair manuals and create sketches as required.
  • Provide on the job training for semiskilled employees and closely supervises trainee activities, evaluates their performance, certifies task completion on skills checklist and identifies individuals capable of further development and inspects completed tasks.
  • Perform periodic checks and routine maintenance on water well engines, booster pumps and waterlines serving as the rig water supply, reports major malfunctions and monitors repairs.
  • Develop requests and verify receipt of materials.
  • Actively assists in handling any emergency which may occur at the rig or camp.
  • Maintains a vigilant effort to assess the condition of the mechanical components during the course of normal operations in conjunction with an active preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime or unsafe situations.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to- date maintenance records on all rig equipment and schedules work relating to the Operational program in the most efficient and least disruptive manner.
  • Diagnoses and supervises repairs on malfunctioning of all types including diesel and gasoline engines, rig draw works, power end of mud pumps, air compressors, transmissions, and related equipment to assure continuity of operations.
  • Conducts safety and housekeeping checks to insure proper practices are observed.
  • Advises rig foreman and crew members on the proper care and operation the equipment in use.
  • Supervises subordinates and directs craftsmen on loan from the Drilling Equipment Maintenance Div. of Drilling & Work over Services Dept. performing pipefitting, plumbing, welding, building craft activities on the rig or camp facilities.
  • Establishes work priorities, provides drawings or sketches as required, assures safe practices are observed and inspects completed work.
  • Carries on and on the job training program for employees undergoing mechanical, and welder training.
  • Closely supervises trainee activities, evaluates their performance, certifies task completion on the skills checklist and identifies individuals capable of further development.
  • Supervises and monitors hydraulic crane activities and the operators.
  • Assures safe practices are observed and the equipment is properly maintained.

  • Strict compliance of HSE standards
  • Undertake Risk Assessments on all aspects of the operational activities under your control.
  •  Assist in upgrading skill levels of all department employees

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree/ Diploma in Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 year experience operating and maintaining diesel/electric rig components and related equipment.
  • A working knowledge of other crafts and operations such as welding, pipefitting, crane operations, plumbing, carpentry and etc.
  • Capable of reading and understanding mechanical blueprints.
  • Valid Driving License.
